How It All Began
The story of Black Swamp Safe Pet began about eight years ago when I was simply a dog owner — just like so many of you.
I live in rural Northwest Ohio on a two-acre lot surrounded by farmland, not far from the Maumee River.
My two dogs, Sam and Ruger, love to run and play in our big yard.
The problem was that they sometimes loved to chase wildlife or the occasional passerby on a bicycle. Some of our neighbors liked to walk their dogs or go for jogs along the same road, and that’s when my family realized we needed a safe way to keep our dogs on our property. We decided to install an underground pet fence — we simply couldn’t take the risk of something happening to our dogs.
From Pet Owner to Pet Fence Installer
A close friend of mine owned a pet fence installation business, so I reached out for a quote. Honestly, I hadn’t considered it before because I assumed it would be too expensive after looking into some of the “big national brands.”
And doing two acres by hand? Definitely not an option!
My friend came out and installed a system for my German Shorthaired Pointer and Labradoodle, and it turned out to be one of the smartest decisions my wife and I have made in over 25 years of marriage. The peace of mind it brought us — along with how quickly our dogs learned the system — truly defined the phrase “money well spent.”
Starting Black Swamp Safe Pet
But the story doesn’t end there. Not long after our fence was installed, my friend called and asked if I’d like to help him with his business. I said yes, and before long, I realized how rewarding it was to help other dog owners enjoy the same peace of mind I had experienced.
That’s how Black Swamp Safe Pet was born — out of a love for dogs, a passion for helping others, and a desire to serve our local community here in Northwest Ohio.

Today, Black Swamp Safe Pet provides custom underground dog fence installations, repairs, and training for families across Northwest Ohio. We focus on personal service, affordable pricing, and complete customer satisfaction — the same values that inspired me to start this business in the first place. Every job includes:
